I am inspired by the natural world. Nature draws me in to watch and listen. My interest in the landscape reflects both the romantic concept of finding solace in the beauty of nature, as well as more contemporary issues of human complicity in the destruction of the environment.

My goal in creating art is two-fold: portraying nature as a beneficial and beautiful space for humans, while also raising awareness of climate change and pollution.

An infinite variety of forms inspire my work - the illusive and ever-changing beauty of water, the fleeting and unreachable sky, and the irregular yet repetitive shape of trees. My work has developed through many stages - abstract mixed media, abstract oil painting based on fractals and patterns of nature, and realistic oil painting. I’ve recently returned to abstraction - creating 3-D pieces that incorporate detritus collected in nature, and highlighting the plastic pollution found in the air, soil, water, and our bodies.

A recurring subject of my work is the ocean. I never tire of gazing at the sea, a mysterious and constantly changing reflection of its surroundings. Colors shift subtly by the moment, and rhythmic patterns are created by wind and tide. It is a subject that is abstract and real all at once.

Becky was born in Sandusky, OH, alongside Lake Erie where her love of the water began. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH. After moving to the Boston area she continued her studies at the DeCordova Museum School, Lincoln, MA. Throughout her career she has taught art, including numerous residencies at schools.

Her paintings have been exhibited in several juried and invitational shows and many recent exhibits with the Boston-area group Shared Habitat Earth. Her work is in the collections of JGB Smith, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital and in private collections in the United States, Canada, and South America.
